How education can promote social transformation

"One child, one teacher, one book and one pencil can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education before everything else." This is how Malala Yousafzay concluded her speech during the young leaders' meeting at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on July 12, 2013, in New York City.

The young Pakistani activist showed the world the importance of education as liberating, as a power for protagonism, and, mainly, as something possible for everyone. The Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA) guarantees the right to education, because it believes that through education it is possible to achieve full personal development, preparation for the exercise of citizenship, and qualification for work.

However, we know that the legal guarantee to education and culture does not truly mean having access to them or greater opportunities to experience them. Brazil, with its continental extension and enormous social inequality, expresses the enormous challenge of bringing knowledge and human development for those who need it most.

It is necessary to act, to roll up our sleeves to take all the available knowledge to the most vulnerable regions. In this way, the lives of children, young people, and educators can be transformed.

How can you change the world through education?

We, at OMUNGA, believe that only through education it is possible to eradicate all kinds of vulnerability. Building a library, offering books and providing moments of listening and personal and professional development for teachers is the path chosen by the OMUNGA team to achieve its original purpose.

"The choice of each book, of each professional who will teach the teacher-training workshops, is based on a thorough study of the local reality and the needs of students and teachers," says Ana Carlota Vieira Niero, pedagogical coordinator of the projects.

"The pedagogical team, as well as all OMUNGA Grife employees, has a deep respect for the knowledge and life experience of each human being impacted by the projects," he concludes.

This work is only possible because of idealistic people who believe in the transforming power of education and support this cause. You too can be a protagonist of this transformation, come and be part of building a better world through education. Click here and get to know OMUNGA's work.

We are counting on you!
